Does my book need an ISBN?

An ISBN isn’t required for ebooks, but you will need an ISBN for your print edition. Vellum does not issue an ISBN, so you’ll need to acquire one before publishing your hardcover or paperback. In the US, you can purchase an ISBN through Bowker.

If you don’t want to purchase an ISBN, some print-on-demand services (like Amazon KDP) can provide you with one. Keep in mind that if you choose to use this ISBN, you won’t be able to use it with other services (e.g., if you use a free ISBN from KDP, you won’t be able to use it with IngramSpark).

Once you’ve acquired an ISBN, you can list it on your Copyright page.

You can read more about your Copyright Page in Vellum Help.
