Why is there extra space at the bottom of some pages in my print edition?

As part of its Automatic Layout for Print, Vellum may shorten pages on both sides of a spread. Vellum does this to ensure that, after widow prevention, each page spread remains balanced – i.e., the bottoms match:

To see how this will look to readers, we recommend viewing your book as two-page spreads. To do this, open your PDF in your Mac’s Preview utility and select View ▸ Two Pages.

You can learn how to proof your Print edition in Vellum Help.
